Verpakkingsindustrie Stempher B.V. has a rich tradition that dates back to 1890. That was the year in which Willem Stempher started his business as a paper merchant in the city of Deventer. Twenty-five years later, they started producing paper bags. In 1937, a subsidiary company of Stempher’s paperware was founded in Rijssen.
In 1970, the board of directors, the administration, accounting and sales departments moved to Rijssen. Shortly afterwards, plastics took up an ever-larger share of the packaging industry, to which the company management reacted. This resulted in the founding of the Polyethylene department in 1971. Since January 2022, Verpakkingsindustrie Stempher B.V. is part of the OPACKGROUP. In 2023, the activities of Papierindustrie Adriaan Dekker in Wormer have been taken over and integrated within Stempher. In 2024 the Polyethylene deparment is integrated in the plastic production sites of the OPACKGROUP.
Stempher distributes its custom-made packaging mainly in Europe and is active in the following sectors, among others: the food industry, agriculture, chemicals and construction materials. Stempher owns ISO 9001 (since 1994) and BRCGS Packaging Materials (since 2004) certificates, and various customer-specific UN-approved certificates.
